Image Resize — FAQ

Does resizing an image affect its quality?

+

Enlarging an image (upscaling) always reduces sharpness because the browser must interpolate pixels that did not exist in the original. Reducing an image (downscaling) generally maintains good quality since pixel information is being averaged. For best results, start with the highest-resolution original available.

What does locking the aspect ratio do?

+

Locking the aspect ratio ensures that changing the width automatically adjusts the height (and vice versa) to maintain the original proportional relationship between width and height. Without this lock, you can set arbitrary dimensions that may stretch or squish the image.

Is my image processed on a server when I resize it?

+

No. All resizing is performed in your browser using the HTML5 Canvas API. Your image file is never uploaded to any server, so your photos and documents remain completely private.

What dimensions should I use for social media images?

+

Common recommended sizes include: Facebook profile photo (170×170 px), Instagram post (1080×1080 px), Twitter/X header (1500×500 px), LinkedIn cover photo (1584×396 px), and YouTube thumbnail (1280×720 px). Platform requirements change periodically, so check the platform's current guidelines for up-to-date specifications.

What file formats are supported for resizing?

+

The tool accepts JPEG, PNG, and WEBP image files as input. After resizing, you can download the result in your preferred format. Converting a PNG to JPEG during resizing will significantly reduce file size for photographs, though it removes transparency support.
